HEALTH

Did you know that Rooibos has been scientifically proven to BEAT cancer? For years this has been hearsay and judged by many as a marketing tool for rooibos based products. The Medical Research Council has been investigating the effect of Rooibos on various kinds of cancer for several years - lead by Dr. Kareemah Gamieldien and Prof. Wentzel Gelderblom. Research has found that Rooibos has been effective in hindering the development process of cancer in the following forms:

  • Skin Cancer
  • Liver Cancer
  • Oesophageal Cancer
  • Colon Cancer
The SA Rooibos Council as well as CANSA (The Cancer Association of South Africa) contribute to the research funding of ongoing studies at the MRC. For more information on these studies or to enquire about Rooibos products for your skin, body, wellbeing and general health please CLICK HERE

EMOTIONAL

A new year always brings with it a new set of resolutions. New pacts that you make with yourself to create change and better your life. You may even have goals that you have set for yourself with the notion that "I'll figure it out when I get to it". In the month of February we bring you the chance to get in touch with who YOU are through the power of emotions and nature. Jill Manson, of Corollation, brings you an event with a difference. Through the power of flowers Jill takes you on a journey to connect with your inner self. Not only do you walk away with a message just for you but an awareness of how to move forward from the position your currently in in your life. SEE EVENTS PAGE

FRIENDS & FAMILY

Do you know your best friend's favourite colour? Or your partner's for that matter? Technology has brought the vast world closer together with the simple click of a button allowing you to communicate with 100's of people in an instant. This does mean that we tend to lose that personal touch with our friends and family. Instant messaging and emails are an effective way of showing people you still have them on your mind but are we losing touch with reality? Try out this simple yet effective way of getting back in "real" touch with your loved ones.

Write a list of 5 – 10 simple questions like this:

My favourite colour? My favourite band? My least favourite food? Etc.

On two sheets of paper (both sheets to have the same questions on them). Then ask your friend/partner to answer the questions as though they were answering for you and you will answer the question how you think they  would reply.  Then swap and see whether you were both correct. This may seem simple and maybe even silly but who is to say that your favourite colour blue is still the same favourite colour 10 years later. You may be surprised to find out what you thought you knew about each other. Learn to reconnect and spend face-to-face time with each other connecting. What better way to strengthen the bond between you.

BUSINESS & CAREER

“I’m a business, man” Take in what is being said and just how big that statement is.  It speaks to anyone who has decided to make their passion, purpose or art form a career.  You are your business; you are your product, merchandise and assets.   Even if you are not yet up and running as a business full-time you owe it to yourself to invest, grow, promote and develop your business into an empire.  If you treat your business like a “side hustle” two things may happen: 1) you will only been seen as others as a side hustle because that is how you see yourself.  2) You will only make side hustle money.  Do not be a victim to your own ignorance, it’s grind season and time you discover how to get your empire state of mind on.

6 Things a Business Woman should know:

Stacia Pierce: #1 Ladies Millionaire Maker: Business secrets learned from watching Oprah

1. Successful people leave clues. “For every one of us that succeed, it’s because there’s somebody there to show you the way out.” You can never journey to a new place without a map.  Successful people are checkpoints along the path to success.  Oprah has always been candid about the advice she received from mentors like Maya Angelou, Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier.  For those you admire, if you want their success, be smart enough to model their lives.

2. Reading is the real key to success. “Books were my pass to personal freedom. I learned to read at age three, and soon discovered there was a whole world to conquer that went beyond our farm in Mississippi.”
Oprah learned early that reading opens the door to curiosity, passion and self-discovery. Oprah has shown that although she is the queen of all media, her favorite activity is getting lost in the pages of intriguing books.  Inspired reading has the power to release anyone from the confines of ignorance, poverty and defeat.

3. Face Your Fears “Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.” Sometimes, you’re just going to have to go through what ever curve ball life throws you, what ever challenge you are facing…be courageous..Stand up and fight…You’ll make it out on the other side stronger and wiser than ever before.

“There’s no easy way out. If there were, I would have bought it. And believe me, it would be one of my favorite things!”

4. Trust Your Intuition “Follow your instincts. That’s where true wisdom manifests itself.” You don’t have to have psychic abilities when we are tuned into that still, small voice that is constantly trying to lead us..We always get better results.  Trusting your gut is just good business practice…if it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.

5. Excellence is necessary to win in life. “I believe the choice to be excellent begins with aligning your thoughts and words with the intention to require more from yourself.” Excellence is doing things right the first time. Your personal excellence will take you further than you could imagine. While you are building your business…take time to consider...Are you giving your absolute best?

6. To move out of your comfort zone you have to change the cast around you “Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.” You have to take the step out in order to go up. Learn to put your trust in those that have seen a higher life by aligning yourself with people that challenge you or even make you uncomfortable

ROMANCE

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Do you celebrate this day with your partner or do you think it's just another marketing ploy and money-making scam? Regardless of whether you are for or against the 14th February, you have to admit that receiving a gift on that day makes you feel special. Something as simple as a flower picked from the garden shows that you are loved and thought about. However, if you anticipate receiving something special and find each year that you are horrified with what you given then why not prompt your partner this year to use the services of a personalised shopper. And what's best about it is that the service is FREE!

All you need to do is send their email address along with a list of  the products you like from THIS LINK (don’t forget to include your garment sizes for underwear) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and they will arrange everything for you.

FINANCES

Now that the December break has come and gone, is the only thing left rattling around your piggy-bank nothing more than an old 10c piece and a few paperclips? January is always such a long month for most people and with the economy the way it has been, many people could not even rely on an annual bonus. Top tips for Surviving January Money Blues:

  • Set the idea in your mind that January will be the month for doing stuff around the house. If you don’t have money to be socializing then use this opportunity to clean out your cupboards, tidy the garden, sort out the Tupperware, groom your pets or even alphabetize your CDs. The great sense of achievement is worth more than money could buy.
  • Avoid using your credit card. It is very easy to maintain the lavish holiday mood from December but keep in mind that overspending now will have to be paid back which will cut into your next salary.
  • Take the time to do a household budget. Most programs come with a template from which you can work if computers are not your forte. Although time consuming at first, do your budget right down to how many toilet rolls and bottles of milk you go through. When you take the time to do this you often realize how much you waste. Having a budget gently nudges you into a more disciplined spending habit.
  • Double up on savings. We all know that buying in bulk is more cost effective in the long run but not everyone can afford the bulk prices right now. Find a friend or family member that will share the cost of buying in bulk and split your shopping.
  • Don’t be afraid of using coupons and questioning special offers. Although it adds time onto your visit to the supermarket, calculate the cost per kg or ml when pricing items on special. Often it can work out cheaper to buy 5 x 1L sachets of a product than to buy a 5L bottle on special.
  • Take careful consideration into the decision to take on another job or sign up for part-time sales to boost your income. Often there is a kit purchase involved and the time taken to build a client base will not bring in an income immediately. Do your homework.
  • This is the perfect time to take up exercising. You don’t need the gym to be keeping active. Start a walking or running group in your area. No pain, no gain. No cost, nothing lost!
