Do You Want A Change In Your Life

The solution is YOU! You're the master of your destiny. You decide if you want to have a change or not.

Instead of dreaming about the kind of life you’d like to live, isn’t it time to start living that life NOW! Unfortunately the truth of the matter is, making any kind of intentional change in our life can be difficult.

How many times have you “committed” yourself to “firm” goals and then looked back 6 months later only to realise you hadn’t achieved any of them yet? In the fast-paced world in which we all live, consistently finding the time to devote to improving our personal skills for a better future may be one of our greatest challenges.

When we decide to change something in our lives, we make the decision to swap out the old and familiar for something new and unknown. This upsets our equilibrium and can be frightening and somewhat disorienting. But, take heart - there are ways to regain control of your time and optimism for a better future. Empower yourself to achieve the goals that have eluded you in the past by giving attention to the following advice –

ESTABLISH A LIFE PLAN
What is it that you really want to accomplish over your lifetime?

Very often we’re so caught up with the day to day routine of our lives that we don’t give any thought to this! Take some time out and set your most important goals with an clear time period for completion such as one month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years.

Take into account the different areas of your life – Career – Family – Personal goals.

Create a Collage or Scrap Book which is an actual, physical picture of your desired reality. It is valuable because it forms an especially clear, sharp image, which can then attract and focus energy into your goal.  So, if you really want that increase, promotion or new home, get out your scissors, old magazines, and glue, and create your dream on paper first.

How many times have all of us thought about someday pursuing our personal interests such as taking up a new hobby, learning a second language, reading the “classics,” or becoming healthier? What about traveling to that special place, hiking that mystical trail, learning to scuba dive, or sailing to the exotic destination that exists in our mind.

Make sure that even those kinds of goals get equal consideration and remember, “Someday” never comes, only the goals that are explicitly defined, with reasonable and honest time frames and a firm commitment are ever achieved. So ensure you develop a strategy to measure your progress along the path to achieving your overall goals so that you can measure your advancement over time.

PRIORITISE YOUR LIFE
Think of your life as a buffet spread. Much like the buffet, your life is full of choices. If you choose to fill it with 60-hour work weeks and no holidays, you'll probably find yourself becoming tired, resentful and angry at work and at home.

But how do you choose what's a priority and what's not? One way of determining this is to ask yourself if the problem will matter in five years? If the cupboard is a mess but you can close the door, close the door. If you can't join the committee, don't join the committee. Stop overloading yourself. Your life will go by and your children will grow up fast enough as it is. You don't want to look back in twenty years and wish you’d spent less time cleaning and more time having fun or pursuing your interests.

Leave your work at work. Allow yourself to be totally present in the moment of whatever it is you’re doing at home, whether spending time with your children or your partner.

Take some “time-outs” -  for yourself, not just your children. Time out can help you refocus and finding solitary time is the best way to revitalize yourself again. Another advantage of this is that it can make the late nights and weekends seem worthwhile.

"When I work extra hours just to pay off bills or put money into a retirement fund that I won't use for another twenty years, I find myself asking 'Is this worth it?'" says a successful business woman "But when I spend that extra time to close that big deal and then get to spend the money on something fun with my daughter, I really feel like I'm immediately reaping the benefits of my hard work."

FIND AN OUTLET
Feeling a little isolated or like you’re the only one who's got problems? Don't count on it. What you can count on is the fact that - unless you live in the sticks - there are probably plenty of other women experiencing the stress of merely being alive and trying to have it all.

Join a networking or support group which interests you. Being able to spend time with other women who are experiencing the same problems as you really helps put things into perspective.

PLAN YOUR WEEK AHEAD OF TIME
Use either Friday afternoon or Monday morning to plan the week to come. At the end of the week, look to see what was not accomplished and list it in the following week’s to do list. If you consistently find many items not completed, reconsider how reasonable your planning has been and make changes. Use this opportunity to also review your goals. After taking the time to plan your week and list your goals, DO NOT file them away outside of eyesight and hope that everything will get accomplished. Keep these items in a place of easy access as a constant reminder.

MAKE A DAILY TO DO LIST
Write out each of the items that need to be done and prioritize the importance of each one. Make sure to reserve time to manage our daily “emergencies” and block out time to complete necessary tasks like phone calls, email, meetings, marketing, unplanned interruptions, and administrative duties. To consistently find time to exercise, it MUST appear on your daily schedule.

MAKE YOUR GOALS MEASURABLE
You must be able to measure progress towards your goals to sustain your motivation. After clearly defining your goals, being able to incrementally measure your progress is the most important component in lifestyle change. How will you know if you are on the right track to achieving your goals? You must break large goals into several measurable components so you can see your success and stay motivated in your efforts.

It takes time and energy up front to become more time efficient and goal oriented, but you can create more time in your life and increase the chances of reaching your goals and full potential in life.

SEIZE EVERY MOMENT
Yes, there may be challenges and problems; but if you try your best to move forward, you'll get more out of life.

Explore and diversify. Take a different route to work, eat exotic foods you've never tasted, do something outrageous (not dangerous).

Life could be exciting. It's your choice. Are you satisfied with your life right now? If not, then you need to do the things that you think will make your life complete and meaningful.

You've got only one life to live. Maximize every opportunity. Go out and do those things which will leave lasting memories in your mind. Live every day as if it's your last.

Remember the words of Carlos Castenada who said, "We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. The amount of effort is the same."

"Live your life so that at the end of it you'll have no regrets. Everyone is dying all the time. Everyone is also living all the time.  It's all in your perspective which one you're experiencing! Choose wisely."
